Cairns – Great Barrier Reef/Daintree Rainforest

Where the oldest rainforest meets the greatest reef, there simply is no place on Earth quite like it!   A blanket of tropical heat smothers Northern Queensland, creating the perfect environment for life to thrive.  Whether zip lining through the world’s oldest rainforest is your speed or getting lost in the colours and majesty of the only organism seen from space the options are simply endless and breathtaking.  We highly recommend sailing the aqua coral coast on Passions of Paradise catamaran to make the most of your Great Barrier Reef experience.  Stopping to explore both Michaelmas Cay and Paradise reef, truly the most cost effective and best snorkel and dive tour out there.  Be sure to jungle surf through the Daintree Rainforest, 3 times older than the Amazon in South America.  It's Mother Nature at her finest...just waiting to be explored!

Fraser Island and Rainbow Beach

The largest sand island on the planet at 1840 square kilometers provides and endless array of activities for nature seekers including some of the cleanest lakes in the world.   Pristine Lake McKenzie offers a fairy tale aura and nearly pure silica perfect to wash your hair, teeth and jewelry.  Or walk across rolling dunes for miles only to stumble across Lake Wabby, a crystal clear emerald body of freshwater just waiting to be dove into.   Beach side dunes are your playground to blast over in your 4X4 ride, a beached ship wreck creates intrigue and camping under the southern cross is incredible in this inscribed World Heritage site.  Entering the island from Rainbow Beach, allows you the fastest and best way to get the journey started.  I recomend booking with Fraser's on Rainbow and combining this tour with a Whitsundays adventure.  Enjoy the countless sights on Fraser Island and remember to only leave behind driving tracks and footprints - bringing all rubbish with you.  Don't leave food out, and beware the cheeky dingoes that dominate these dunes!

Whitsunday Islands

For around $350 AUD you can combine Fraser Island and the Whitsunday Sailing trip to maximize your adventure.  Both a must!  Personalize your tour by booking a boat this suits your age group and adventure level.  I reccommend Broomstick for those looking to sail, swim and crash a cup of wine as the sun sets over the magnificent islands.   A racing Yacht from South Africa, built to win the Cape Town to Rio yacht race, this vessel flies through the aqua waters in style.  Stopping at the world famous Whitehaven Beach, a mixture of turquoise waters and white, silica sand creates a swirling playground for sting rays and starfish – Beautiful!

Byron Bay and Bluesfest

Experience the rhythmically spiritual vibes that take over your body when you roll into Byron, preferably in a camper van that fits 8, built for two.  The magic unfolds as creativity, music and pure positive energy crashes onto its ruggedly beautiful shore and into your soul.  If you can swing a Byron visit in the month of April, generally Easter weekend - MAKE IT HAPPEN!!  I suggest volunteering at Bluesfest, as tickets are over $500 for a weekend pass.   This is not just any blues and roots musical festival, but an epic event hosting the best names in music history.  From Buddy Guy, to Bedouin Soundclash, Xavier Rudd and so many righteous artists, no matter your roll, you’ll find yourself submerged in this experience of a lifetime, surrounded by world class musicians, sharing the pure and hard sound of blues and all that jazz.

Favorite wildlife 

7 out of 10 of the deadliest animals on the planet reside in Oz.  Beware saltwater crocs,  box jellies and great whites that rule the coast, brown snakes and red back spiders too, though rest assured knowing than you’ll more than likely ‘be alright mate’ as long as you remain aware of your surroundings.   Docile Kangaroos are everywhere, so much so that you have to avoid hitting them when they come out a dusk to feed.  The stoned looking marsupials are mostly friendly, mainly those living in captivity, but can and will put their dukes up if need be.  Roos, also provide a lean source of meat if an afternoon barbie on the beach is in the mix – Mmmm!  Kolas are also an Australian classic marsupial, and can be found in eucalyptus forests on the South Eastern coast.  An endangered flightless bird called the Cassowary can be found in Northern Australia.  This relatively dangerous creature is the world’s 3^rd largest bird and holds huge symbolic meaning for the Aboriginal people.   Sadly only around 300 remain in Australia today. 

Weather

Avoid Northern Queensland January-April (the very wet season) otherwise, its pure rays mate.  The temp in Sydney is heating up at this time, so make your way south to soak up the sun, surf and unbeatable sights the whole way down the coast.
