Hawai'i

ALOHA!

Welcome to paradise - a romantic haven filled with sunny skys, endless rainbows and crystal clear waters just waiting to be explored.

Lose yourself in the island wonder, while wrapping yourself in a traditional lei.  Fragrant and traditional, the necklace made up of colourful flowers is the perfect cherry on delicious cake.

Hawaii is the newest of the 50 United States and is the only one made up of islands.  The beautiful, seductive and pristine volcanic land  is an archipelago in the central Pacific Ocean, southwest of the continental United States, southeast of Japan, and northeast of Australia.

A great place to break up an overseas journey, Hawaii has 8 main islands: Ni'ihau, Kaua'i, O'ahu, Moloka'i, Lana'i, Koho'olawe, Maui and Hawai'i (the BIG island). This is a true global 'hot spot' as all of the Hawaiian islands were formed by volcanoes erupting from the sea floor.

The State of Hawaii has two official languages: English and Hawaiian

The alphabet contains 12 letters: 5 vowels (a, e, i, o, u) and 7 consonants (h, k, l, m, n, p, w)

Flora and Fauna

Because of the islands' volcanic formation, native life before human activity is said to have arrived by the "3 W's": wind (carried through the air), waves (brought by ocean currents), and wings (birds, insects, and whatever they brought with them). The isolation of the Hawaiian Islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, and the wide range of environments on high islands in and near the tropic, has resulted in a vast array of endemic flora and fauna.  Hawaii has more endangered species and has lost a higher percentage of its endemic species than anywhere in the United States.

Religion

The top two religions to dominate this beautiful land is Christianity and Buddhism.  I believe the sun, sea and sky are also a large part of the faith system there.  With colorful rainbows filling the sky daily, it's evident a 'God' is always near.
